Concert lesson about string instruments
Written by Alessandro S., Lorenzo S., Ikhlase L., Domenico G., Flavio A., Daniel C.
On 4th March Davide Mocini, a guitarist and lutenist, came to an ex monastery in Sestri Levante to tell the students of our school the history of string instruments and to explain the evolution and development in the last four centuries.
The musician explained the various differences and how the technique of approaching the performance has changed, the different ways of plucking the strings, proposing, for each of them, some pieces and also exposing very particular curiosities, such as the different writing of the notes on the scores . “It is clear that the instrument that attracts most of the attention” – he added – "is the electric guitar, which is nowadays language and it is a completely different instrument from the other three on which we are carrying out important work to revive them. Getting into these repertoires is very difficult for a person who has never heard them before. It takes a lot of patience and a lot of listening education to enter this type of world."
Davide Mocini has a diploma in classical guitar and lute, plays in a Renaissance trio and continues to further his studies on the baroque lute. He composes songs with the Renaissance lute which he often combines with the electric guitar, contaminating, without altering, the original atmosphere of that distant world.

Astronomy at school
Written by Daniel, Ikhlase, Alessandro S., Lorenzo S.,
Another activity we have done is that of the astronomer who is passionate about taking photos of celestial bodies. He brought us several images and knowledge to us, helping us better understand how our galaxy is formed. We have conducted ulterior studies on the history of the moon, on the stars, how they are classified, on our galaxy and on nebulae. If another galaxy existed that is ten million years ago and if people went there, they would see how are planet would end.

First attempts with Scratch
Our science project: scratch
A few weeks ago, our science teacher proposed a new programming project. The goal of this project is to end up being able to create our own videogame about celiac diseases.
We started by pasting a pre-made flowchart into our very first script. Our teacher explained that we needed to add a background to our “videogame“. She also explained to us that we needed to create a new character and modify the project to our liking. We went to the IT lab so many times to perfect it.
Next science lesson we will eventually finish this project and the teacher will give us a grade.
This will be part of our civic education program.
The videogame we created and shared is celiac, and you can play with it, but it can’t eat gluten!

The “Bancarellino” is a competition to encourage the kids to read books.
The goal of this competition is to read 3 books in 3 months. Students become literary critics and vote the best one.
In our class 8 students took part because we like reading, then 2 teachers came to our class with 8 class books and distributed them.
Each class has a number of books based on the number of participating students. On 25th of May we’re going to Pontremoli in Tuscany to rate the best book, which will be awarded.

Geogebra
Written by Lorenzo S., Alessandro S., Domenico G., Ikhlase L.
In our school there were various activities that impressed us, for example a work with geogebra that really impressed us. Geogebra is a virtual platform in which you create geometric figures, our Maths teacher gave us an outline (we had to make a kite exactly). A few days before carrying out this work we attended a short lesson where they told us how to use the platform. The same day we attended a short lesson where he said that mathematics is not created but discovered therefore it existed before we existed in nature. The majority of the class managed to do the exercise successfully. It made us more aware of the world of geometry and competent. The organisers congratulated us.
Safer Internet Day
In our school we are celebrating Safer Internet Day and we are talking about cyber bullying and the consequences and implications on teenagers’ minds. Unluckily it is still a too common phenomenon among young people.
We produced a short video and a presentation about Internet that we will publish here.
